The Dog Social Club Cooperative is hiring dog handlers!

Dog and handler at The Dog Social Club Cooperative dog daycare and boarding in Oakland, California

To be a dog handler at Dog Social Club you need a strong love of dogs, and an interest in learning dog behavior and playgroup management.

No professional dog experience required, but you should be the person who notices the dog before the person walking it. Have professional dog experience? That’s great, too!

Our role as dog handler is part teacher, part referee, part janitor, part dog mind reader. We take our role as caretakers for our dogs very seriously, and their health and safety is the core of everything we do.

Yes, we leave work covered in dog hair. We pick up our weight in dog poop every week. We work early mornings or late nights, and on just about every holiday. We don’t just play with dogs – we keep them safe and we give them the care they need.

To apply, please email us your resume and a cover letter about why you want to work with dogs!

Write us at jobs@dogsocialclub.com. Please address your cover “Dear Rover”. Yeah, really – we want to know you read the details.

Dog Handler positions start at $17 per hour, with an initial raise when you pass your 3-month professional assessment. Qualified handlers are eligible for promotion to higher positions including puppy tutor, dog bather, shift lead, and reception (with $.50-$1 per hour raises at each stage).

Early shift begins at 6am. Late shift ends at 10pm.

We are currently hiring for Friday-Monday shifts.

This isn’t a seasonal gig – our current workers have been with us for an average of 3 years, many more than 5 years.

Added perks after 3 months include bringing your dog to work, 2 weeks of free boarding per year, 50% discounts on in-house products, and discounts with our industry partners in veterinary care and pet supplies.

Our business is a cooperative, and you are eligible to become a worker-owner after 6 months of employment and successfully passing your dog handler assessment. Worker-owners contribute to the decision making of the business and can run for a seat on our Board of Directors.
