The Dog Social Club is Oakland’s BEST dog daycare and boarding facility.
The Dog Social Club Cooperative celebrated its first day of business on July 9, 2019, but its roots go many years (decades!) deeper.
In 1997, Every Dog Has Its Daycare was founded in Emeryville, CA. One of the pioneers of the modern dog daycare model, Every Dog cared for East Bay dogs for over 22 years across 3 facilities in Emeryville and Oakland. In early 2019, the owner of Every Dog announced the West Oakland building was being offered for sale and the business would be closing.
The community of workers and clients mobilized. Bonded together over their love for their canine companions, they quickly acted to form a new entity which would allow the community to continue. The Dog Social Club Cooperative was formed.
The Dog Social Club Cooperative is a worker-consumer hybrid cooperative, reflecting the shared interest of the workers (as service provers) and consumers (as service clients) in the long term success of the business. A cooperative business model ensures this incomparable facility will operate for many years to come, including a structure for fair compensation for the passionate and talented workers who care for the dogs every day, and input from the human clients to ensure the needs of every dog are met.
